Swaffham’s Meadow House launches Operation Christmas Tree

The team at Meadow House nursing home in Swaffham, has mobilised resources for ‘Operation Christmas Tree’ in an effort to help spread Christmas cheer around the local area.

The local community usually enjoys a range of Christmas events, including a local Christmas tree festival held in their local church, but with Covid-19 causing many to be cancelled. Meadow House’s Business Administrator, Caroline Cryan thought of an idea and, with the support from activities coordinator Charlotte Walsh and  Home Manager, Joanna Jankowska, has created ‘Operation Christmas Tree’.

The project involves care homes, schools and other organisations across the local area putting up Christmas trees in their front gardens or outside areas to create a Christmas tree trail, for members of the public to enjoy.

Having contacted local care homes and schools in the area, 10 have so far confirmed they’ll be taking part and Charlotte is working with residents at Meadow House to create beautiful homemade decorations to adorn their tree.

Other organisations taking part include Manorcourt Homecare in Turbine Way, Swaffham Primary Academy, Nicholas Hammond Academy, Iceni Centre and the Swaffham Lions.

Others are set to join the initiative in the coming days and the home is encouraging businesses, charities, organisations and members of the public to get involved by putting their own trees on public display.

Caroline explains, “Covid has certainly prompted us into finding solutions to lots of new challenges and that’s exactly what we’re doing this Christmas.

“It’s such a shame that we won’t have the usual community events to bring us all together at this lovely time of year, so we launched Operation Christmas Tree as a way of spreading a bit of festive cheer whilst also lighting up our lovely Town for everyone to enjoy.

“The response we’ve had from other care homes and groups has been fantastic and I hope that lots of members of the public will enjoy exploring the trail and looking at the beautiful decorations our residents have worked on.”

Christmas trees will be on display at the following places: Meadow House, Manorcourt Homecare in Turbine Way, Westfields Residential Care, Iceni House, The Paddocks, Swaffham Primary Academy,  Nicholas Hammond Academy and the Iceni Centre from 7th December until the New Year.

Any further confirmed locations will be shared on the Healthcare Homes Facebook page.

Meadow House is part of the Healthcare Homes Group and is based on Norwich Road in Swaffham.  For more information call 01760 725146.
