The team at The Manor House residential care home in North Walsham, Norfolk, have celebrated a very special resident who has reached her 20 year anniversary of living at the home.
Resident Annie Bacon was born in Skeyton before moving to Suffield and grew up living with her father who was a carpenter and her mother who stayed at home to care for her and her sister. Annie moved into residential care when she sadly lost her mother.
Annie moved to The Manor House at the age of 59 and thoroughly enjoys life there where she has many friends and hobbies.
A dedicated Daniel O’Donnell fan, Annie loves listening to music, with other favourites including Elvis and Cliff Richard, so very much enjoys visits from local entertainers.
A keen crafter, Annie won an award for her cross stitching and also enjoys crosswords, word searches and reading.
Viewed as a central part of The Manor House family, Annie enjoys her days speaking with fellow residents and spending time in the home’s wonderful garden.
Last week, the team celebrated Annie’s milestone year at the home. She chose to have an afternoon tea with her friends, listening to her beloved Daniel O’Donnell. Home Manager Paula Pawsey also arranged a gift of a special Daniel mug.
Paula explains, “Annie is such an important part of our home. She’s been here for longer than many of the staff and really is at the heart of The Manor House.
“She’s such a happy, positive lady, who is so popular with residents as she goes out of her way to chat to people and to make any new residents feel welcome.
“She is a wonderful example of how residential care homes can become long-term, comfortable homes that residents love. Annie is continually praising the home for our food, our staff and our garden, which is full of wildlife which she loves to observe.
“It was very special for us to treat Annie to an afternoon of all her favourite things. We wanted to show how much she means to us and we hope we have many more years of making memories at The Manor House with her.”
Talking about her twenty years at The Manor House, Annie added: “I love living here – it’s my home and nothing is too much trouble for the team; they are all willing to help me. I love watching the birds and butterflies in the garden, and there’s always something going on. Everyone is so happy and nice here – there’s nothing I would change about the home.”
The Manor House is part of the Healthcare Homes Group and is based on North Walsham Wood on Skeyton Road. For more information call 01692 402252.
