Remembrance week at Healthcare Homes

Residents and staff at our care homes took pride in commemorating Armistice Day with a wide range of events and activities.

We are fortunate to have a number of residents who served in the armed forces living in our homes and it is always fascinating to hear about their military careers and memories.

This is Stan, who lives at Uvedale Hall in Needham Market.

He joined the Royal Navy when he was 18 and served on the seas for eight years. He dressed in his uniform to attend the Remembrance parade in Needham Market on Sunday.

At The Old Vicarage in Sherborne, Chris dressed up in his air uniform for the special day.

Chris had a fantastic career working as a gliding instructor with the Air Training Corps, before working at Westland Helicopters. After he retired from Westland, he pursued his passion for the skies by working with aeroplanes.

Remembrance Week is always an important time of the year for our residents. Many of our homes made fabulous decorations to commemorate the fallen like this display in the gardens of Barking Hall in Ipswich.

Other homes like The Manor House in North Walsham took to handcrafting displays. Here they turned plastic bottles into beautiful red poppies for their decorations.

Commemorating events like Armistice Day is just one of the ways we support those who live in our homes to lead fulfilling lives. Sharing in remembrance activities like these not only fosters a great sense of community and camaraderie but stimulates memory and promotes healthy minds.
