Residents at Handford House care home in Ipswich are delighted to have the opportunity to visit Ray’s Café, their own coffee bar situated in the garden of their home.
Ray’s Café was lovingly developed utilising the visiting pod which was put into the garden at the start of the pandemic. The cafe is fully equipped with heating and electricity, serving as a versatile venue for various café activities, meetings with friends and relatives, or simply a spot for residents to enjoy a cup of coffee away from the main house.
Handford House deputy manager Naomi Bender explained, “Earlier this year we received a generous donation from the family of one of our residents. Her brother, Ray, had recently passed away, and the family wished to make this contribution to the home in his memory. As well as being an integral part of helping to plan the cafe, they also commissioned a sign that reads Ray’s Café – Refreshments provided, just bring love and laughter.”
Ray’s café has had two openings – one exclusively for Ray’s family and another during the Handford House summer fete, which had a Hawaiian theme.
During the event, Naomi paid tribute to the hardworking team that dedicated hours to creating Ray’s Café. They painted, arranged furniture and transformed the pod into a cosy café atmosphere.
