We are delighted to have launched Healthcare Homes in Bloom 2023 and look forward to seeing entries from our homes and branches – bringing colour into the lives of those we care for and getting people out of doors for their health, motivation and enjoyment.
Healthcare Homes in Bloom was successfully introduced last year and we want to encourage even more homes and branches to take part in Healthcare Homes in Bloom 2023.
Homes are already starting to plant seeds to grow their own flowers and vegetables as well as planting up pots and baskets and getting outdoor areas neat and tidy. Residents and clients can get involved with the care teams or local community groups, friends and families encouraged to take part and help out.

Lots of our residents and clients will have loved spending time in the garden throughout their lives and it is important to continue these hobbies and pastimes as long as possible. Being out in the fresh air is good for wellbeing and growing something yourself can be a great boost for self-esteem. What’s more gardening –
- Reduces stress and can reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety
- Can make you happy and increase levels of serotonin in the body
- Improves hand strength and dexterity
- Gives you a boost of vitamin D helping your bones and immune system – just don’t forget the hats and sunscreen
- Is good exercise
- Stimulates conversation and memories of garden activity in the past
- Provides sensory enjoyment – smelling, touching, looking and listening
This year there are five categories for Healthcare Homes in Bloom
1 – Best hanging basket, pot or container
2 – Best overall display or garden
3 – Best cut flowers display
4 – Best for community/family involvement
5 – Best vegetable patch
We will be sure to keep you up to date as progress is being made. In the meantime make the most of the sunny days and prepare to be blooming marvellous. For more information about our great activities see our website www.healthcarehomes.co.uk
