Residents at Ladymead care home in Swindon are celebrating after a fantastic result in a recent ‘virtual’ games competition.
The home has finished third in the ‘Virtual Senior Sports Games’ hosted by Swindon Sports Forum in partnership with Swindon Borough Council.
Inspired by a visit to the Glasgow Senor Games in 2019, the Swindon version was due to take place in person but was moved to a virtual event amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.
Six care homes in the area took part, in four activities, each earning the homes points. The home with the most points – Prince Rupert Court – was crowned Virtual Games Champion.
Ladymead residents participated in ‘foam javelin’, ‘tin can alley’, ‘golf putting’ and ‘target mat’. Residents were delighted to come third overall, taking second place in ‘target mat’ and ‘tin can alley’.
On Wednesday 14th October, Activities Coordinator Claire Donnelly held an awards ceremony for the residents that took part, along with the home manager, Byju Vasudevan, which included cakes and bubbly. They presented residents each with trophies, medals and an overall certificate.
Byju said: “It was great fun for our residents to take place in this event and we’re so pleased that the organisers were able to move it to a virtual format so it could still take place.
“Everyone had a wonderful time and our competitors were very pleased with their medals and certificates. We’d like to thank Claire for coordinating this and organising such a fun event – we look forward to taking part next year.”
