Healthcare Homes group recognised in prestigious industry awards

The Healthcare Homes Group is proudly announcing its shortlisting for two national industry awards.

Babs Mitchell, home administrator for Blandford Grange nursing home in Blandford Forum, Dorset, has been shortlisted in the ‘Care Champion’ category of the National Care Awards, and Sandown Park nursing home in Windsor has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Dementia Garden’ category of the National Dementia Care Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the very best people in the care sector, by highlighting excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

Babs Mitchell has been part of the Blandford Grange family since it opened its doors 10 years ago, and has been supporting the home as administrator ever since. She knows the home inside and out, and is described as “my confidante, my right-hand woman and someone who I truly wouldn’t want to work without.” By Home Manager Tilla Wagner.

The sensory garden at Sandown Park, an ‘outstanding’-rated home, has been designed as a tranquil haven for residents.  It features colours, sounds, seating areas and activity points, all designed to stimulate residents, many of whom live with dementia.  It has come into its own during the Covid-19 pandemic, when it has become a lifeline for residents and relatives who have used it to meet safely.

Healthcare Homes Group Regional Director for Sandown Park and Blandford Grange, Elena Alexa said: “We are absolutely delighted for Babs and for all at Sandown Park, to have received this recognition.

“These awards are hotly contested, with nominations from incredible people within our industry being submitted from all over the country.  They really do celebrate excellence and we’re very proud to have one of our homes and one of our team members recognised in this way.

“Now more than ever, it’s so important to thank our wonderful teams for the incredible work they do and on behalf of everyone within the group I’d like to say well done to Babs, the Sandown Park team and everyone else who was nominated this year.”

Winners will be announced at a special ‘virtual’ awards ceremony in November.
