Charlie is Suffolk’s Apprentice of the Year

Barking Hall’s Charlie Roe has been named Apprentice of the Year in the Suffolk Care Awards 2022.

Run by Care Development East the Suffolk Care Awards recognise and celebrate the work of the care sector and the local communities that have continued to support them.

The Apprentice of the Year Award is open to anyone working within the care sector and celebrates an apprentice who is making an exceptional contribution to their workplace and having a positive impact on their colleagues and clients.

Charlie is a Trainee Associate Practitioner at Barking Hall, studying her apprenticeship qualification through the Healthcare Homes Academy. Initially employed as a night carer, she now works day shifts as part of the nursing team. Charlie has become the manual handling champion at the Barking home, ensuring all residents are assessed for, and have, the correct slings in place.

She has long standing dementia care knowledge and shares her knowledge and ability with others in both the nursing and care teams.

Barking Hall nursing home manager Susan Oates said, “Charlie is a colourful character, funny and wonderful with our dementia residents, she has an intuitive ability to know what is needed if a resident living with dementia should become distressed in any way.

“Her calm, can-do attitude goes a long way in ensuring Barking Hall is a calm, friendly home for all of our residents.”

Barking Hall nursing home is surrounded by stunning scenery and gardens. Once part of the stables of a much larger estate, it is beautifully tranquil, set on the edge of the hamlet of Barking next to the busier town of Needham Market.

The home is part of the Healthcare Homes family of 48 care homes and 11 home care branches. It is rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission. Healthcare Homes has been named as one of the Top 20 care home providers in the UK by independent review website carehome.co.uk

The Top 20 features the companies who are the most highly rated by the people receiving care, their friends and families. Healthcare Homes is extremely proud of its track record having featured in the awards every year since 2016. Barking Hall has a 9.5 out of 10 score with carehome.co.uk
