Beccles care home resident marks 101st birthday

A resident at The White House care home in Beccles has marked her 101st birthday with a special celebration at the home.

Joan Gooch, who is originally from Lowestoft, moved into The White House in August 2019. Joan married at the age of 19, and enjoyed a unique ‘double wedding’ with her sister, during which she recalls the vicar very nearly mixed up the brides’ names!

Joan began her career as a receptionist at the Imperial Hotel in Lowestoft and progressed to become the hotel manager.  She loved to play tennis and to travel as much as she could whilst also managing her career and bringing up her four children.

Joan turned 101 earlier this month and enjoyed a wonderful day of celebrations at the home, with presents, cards, flowers, video calls and a specially baked birthday cake, made by the home’s chef.

Home manager Elena Dolniceanu said, “What a pleasure it was to celebrate Joan’s 101 years.  We asked Joan for the secret of her long and healthy life.  She told us, there is no secret, she just worked hard, keeps smiling and is always positive – what a wonderful outlook to have.

“I hope that Joan enjoyed her day, which was full of smiles and on behalf of everyone at the White House I’d like to wish her a very happy birthday.”

The White House is part of the Healthcare Homes Group and is based on Ashmans Road in Beccles. For more information on the range of services provided, call 01502 717683.
