Healthcare Homes colleagues were delighted to get together at a company conference and awards last week to recognize staff and teams who work throughout our family of 48 homes and 11 homecare branches.
And whilst it was recognized that every health and social care employee is undoubtedly a hero, and every Healthcare Homes team was awarded an Inspirational Team of the Year Award, managers had also been asked to recommend individuals for the Hero Awards 2022.
Shaila Rizvi, who works as a Healthcare Practitioner at Park House in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, was one of 24 individuals honored with a Hero Award.

Shaila started working as a Care Assistant at Park House in April 2018. She was enrolled on to the HCP Training in October 2019, just a few months before the Covid pandemic started. Due to the expected staff shortages and part of the company’s preparations with regards to the impact of Covid, she was supported to undergo medication competency and other clinical skills competencies to support the home cover for Registered Nurse shortages.
Due to staff shortages Shaila quickly found herself working as the lead staff member with support of the Regional Director who was managing the home. Shala was clearly the standout staff member who brought the team together and supported all. She then turned her hand to leading on the vacant admin role whilst still covering shifts on the floor – providing much needed support to everyone.
Shaila’s dedication, loyalty, commitment to support the home at key times, flexibility, versatility and hard work makes her a standout candidate from the rest. Her contribution and input have been clearly noticeable when the home has been in difficult situations. When some of our staff left the home in difficult situations, Shaila rose to the occasion and contributed significantly to the safety and stability of Park House.
Gordon Cochrane, chief executive officer, told the audience, “ I’m delighted to say that we were inundated with nominations for people that managers wanted to be recognized as absolute stars, the backbones of our homes and branches, the heroes we simply cannot do without and Shaila is one of those heroes.”
