The team of staff at Ashley Gardens Care Centre in Maidstone has enjoyed a day of thanks and celebration for the incredible efforts of the workforce during 2020.
Staff at the home, which cares for up to 89 people, many of whom live with dementia, have worked tirelessly to protect and care for residents throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
In recognition of her team’s efforts, home manager Jo Mazza organised a staff celebration with a huge range of treats and surprises. Head chef Wes and Jo came into the home at 6am on the 16th December, and together they prepared for the day, with Wes cooking a breakfast feast for night and day staff, while Jo prepped the reception area for serving food, drinks and gifts.
At the morning meeting, staff enjoyed a selection of cakes and at lunchtime ‘Burgers by Olivia’ arrived to supply the team with a delicious lunch, followed by ice cream.
Every staff member received a Christmas present and scratch card, and prizes were awarded for the best Christmas outfit. Night staff were then treated to a takeout dinner.
Prior to the first national lockdown, the Healthcare Homes Group, of which the home is part, introduced strict health and safety protocols, going above and beyond government guidance to do all they could to minimise risk to residents.
Staff have worked extra shifts, taken on additional work and supported their colleagues 24 hours a day as the pandemic has impacted the country.
Jo said: “2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for the care sector but I am so privileged to work with such an amazing team. Simply saying thank you is not enough to show how much I appreciate every single person’s hard work and commitment to our lovely residents.
“Our Christmas party was a gesture to show this appreciation and I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved day of treats.”
