Barking Hall coordinates local foodbank donation

In December, Barking Hall Nursing Home in Barking, near Needham Market, has been delighted to be able to donate a large supply of food and goodies to the Stowmarket and Needham Market Foodbank, to help support the local cause.

Abbe Cook and Karen Robinson, activities coordinators for Barking Hall Nursing Home, led the initiative and started the collection. This included tinned and packet foods, cereals, biscuits and chocolate, in addition to sanitary products, soaps, toothpastes and toilet rolls.

After putting a call out to friends and colleagues via Facebook and in the home, Abbe and Karen were able to gather four large boxes of items, which was collected by Hazel Smith from Stowmarket and Needham Market’s foodbank for distribution to those in need.

Home Manager Sue Oates said; “We thought it would be a good idea to help those less fortunate than ourselves, so staff and residents’ families kindly donated food, hygiene items and Christmas presents. The collection then went to the Stowmarket and Needham Market Foodbank run by Mike and Hazel Smith. Thank you to everyone who supported Abbe and Karen in being able to give so generously.”

Adds Abbe Cook: “Times are tough for many families and so I decided to do a collection for the foodbank. With a little help from my wonderful colleagues and friends of Barking Hall, it was fantastic to be able to give the foodbank four large boxes full of items. Every donation was so gratefully received.”
