Residents at Maynell House in Felixstowe enjoyed a seasonal activity with a thoughtful twist this week as they turned their carved pumpkins into natural bird feeders.

Supporting local wildlife through the colder months

With colder days drawing in, residents were keen to do something positive for the birds and small creatures who visit the gardens around the home. Filling feeders with seeds gives the birds a welcome boost as winter approaches, and the pumpkins that have brightened doorsteps and tables don’t go to waste- Once the birds have enjoyed the seeds, the pumpkins themselves will become a nutritious treat for other wildlife, ensuring that nothing goes to waste.

Residents also took time to share stories of autumns past and reflect on the importance of caring for nature throughout the year.

Activities Coordinator, Nicki Bain, said:

“Our residents really enjoyed getting involved in this creative and thoughtful project. It’s a simple idea that brings joy to everyone involved while helping to care for the wildlife around us. It’s lovely to see our community giving something back to nature as the seasons change.”

Maynell House provides residential and respite care to elderly people living in Felixstowe. The home is warm and welcoming- a harmonious atmosphere prevails. The house is a late Victorian Listed building, formerly Felixstowe college, and has been lovingly extended and refurbished to retail its original features.
